At first Judy and I thought a volcano had erupted.  This ash filled fire cloud descended into the Homer bay within 15 minutes.  Soon we learned of the great Alaskan Fire of 2014 burning 70 miles north of us.  With one highway out, we decided to cut our stay in Homer a little short and start on the next leg of our trip.  Dave, who was following the Alaska news online, told us that the highway was closed for a time after we passed through.
