Homer to Haines

                                     Homer to Haines:  Part I

Thelma and Louise are on the move after many wonderful days in Homer and on the Kenai Peninsula.  We left Homer (Point A on the map) after the fire clouds moved in and with the fire on the peninsula still out of control.  We stopped in Anchorage and then are spending the night near Point B on the Alaska Highway.

Alaskans love their extreme sports!  Water temp is said to be 45.
Northeast of Anchorage - Eagle River Nature Center
We stopped at this beautiful Nature Center and I took a hike.  Scaredycat that I am with possible bears around, I walked along humming and talking aloud.  The ranger said it was a good idea.
Common Harebell
Gray Jay
We continued northeast of Anchorage and found beautiful sights along the highway.

The Matanuska River bed is massive

1 of 4 we've seen today!
a fairly typical scene at the larger rivers
wild iris bogs

We had one stunning view after another and hardly any traffic.  As Judy keeps saying, we are ahead of everything- shops opening, traffic, tourists, mosquitoes...
