Homer to Haines and the end of the Alcan Highway
Judy and I finished our drive of the Alcan Highway - the Alaskan/Canadian Highway. Point "B" to Point "D" on the map. It took us from Homer on the Kenai Peninsula at the end of one highway to Haines at the end of another highway. We passed from Alaska into The Yukon Territory and back into Alaska. The Yukon Territory was a new one for me. They asked us many questions at the border and we had to show our passports.
The Yukon was extremely interesting. It is larger than Texas with a population of 36,000 and 27,000 of those live in the city of Whitehorse. We passed through entire sections of highway with no cars or trucks in sight for miles - only moose and caribou, snow and completely iced in lakes.

The highest point of the Alcan Highway was only 4,000 ft but snow and ice were present and we could see how high the snow got in the winter. This highway is supposedly kept open all year.
We passed back into Alaska and continued to the end of the Alcan Highway at Haines, a fishing town of 2,600 (we think they had to count the occasional tourist to get these numbers).
